EDITORIAL: So who exactly is running Connexions?

Statistics don't explain everything, but Connexions carried out two million "interventions" in the six months from April to October 2003, almost as many as the 2.1 million in the previous 12 months. It will need to continue this progress to achieve its November 2004 target of reducing the proportion of 16- to 18-year-olds not in employment, education or training by 10 per cent.

A large amount of excellent work is undoubtedly being carried out by the Connexions service, much of it through its 7,500 full-time equivalent personal advisers.

But the question on everyone's lips is how Connexions will fit into children's trusts. Connexions based its 47 partnerships on the Learning and Skills Council's regional breakdown of England; the new trusts are based on local authority boundaries.
