Editorial: Local democracy is not just for a week

This is all good news, but it is important for councils to ensure that "take part take power" is part of their everyday dealings with young people, not confined to one week a year. Any council with a modicum of sense should have used the theme of "take part take power" to highlight the way that young people in their area can control the Youth Opportunity Fund, for example, particularly considering that one of the concerns youth workers have about the fund is the difficulty in promoting it to young people. Hull City Council's launch of a text facility to give more young people a voice in local government (see p4) is an example of an event that will have a lasting impact.
