Early Years: Sure Start month to launch at zoo

Thousands of children, parents and children's workers will take part in celebrations to mark National Sure Start month, which kicks off with a launch party at London Zoo on 2 June.

More than 1,000 local events will take place across the country with big regional celebrations in Leeds, Liverpool, Croydon, Nottingham, Peterborough, Durham, Southampton and Tipton.

As well as award ceremonies to recognise the efforts of childcarers and campaigning parents, there will be conferences dedicated to play, early years, working with families, and nurseries.

Naomi Eisenstadt, director of the Sure Start Unit, said: "The emphasis is very much on celebrating the achievements of all those involved in early years - from professionals to families."

The month of events is run by a partnership of six charities: 4Children, Daycare Trust, National Childminding Association, National Day Nurseries Association, National Family and Parenting Institute, and Pre-school Learning Alliance.
