Early Years: Sure Start month to celebrate workers

National Sure Start month will celebrate the achievements of settings and workers as well as providing a forum to discuss the future development of childcare, according to the organisation leading the event.

The Sure Start sponsored series of events in June will be run by a partnership of six charities led by the Pre-school Learning Alliance, and will feature themed weeks, national conferences and awards, and local events.

Alliance chief executive Steve Alexander said: "We want to focus on celebrating the range of services on offer to parents and families." But he acknowledged there would be serious discussion about the future of Sure Start.

The theme, Your Children, Your Choices, reflects the role of parents in shaping services, he added. Other partners include 4Children, Daycare Trust, National Childminding Association, National Day Nurseries Association and the National Family and Parenting Institute.
