Sure Start: Local work getting national attention

Sure Start services across England have the chance to highlight innovative local work with children and families by competing for national awards.

The 2004 Sure Start Partners in Excellence awards are organised by national childcare charity Daycare Trust on behalf of the Sure Start Unit.

Nine award categories cover areas such as partnership working, supporting parents, boosting children's learning and staff development.

Entrants may include local authorities, children's information services, local health service and employment and community regeneration partners, children's centres, schools, Sure Start local programmes, childminders, out-of-school clubs and early excellence centres.

Judges include Naomi Eisenstadt, director of the Sure Start Unit, Daycare Trust director Stephen Burke, and journalist Polly Toynbee.

The deadline for entries is 1 October and a shortlist will be announced in November.
