The charity's Parent Matters survey found three out of four parents consider the most important factors when choosing childcare to be: a safe and secure environment; caring and kind staff; learning through play; and being consulted regularly on their child's progress.
The poll also found 64 per cent felt they knew a lot about what their children did at childcare services, although 35 per cent said they knew little or nothing.
Three quarters of the parents said learning through play was a key part of childcare services.
