DVD help on life in British schools

Education
Children new to the British education system will learn about life in schools through a DVD induction service offering cultural and social advice.

The English Schools Induction Service (ESIS), developed by not-for-profit organisation Blade Education, will help non-English speaking children prepare for starting school. The series of films will be given to children before they start school, and can be translated into any language.

Topics covered by the films include gender equality, lunch food and how to get a teacher's attention in class.

Beth Hooper, co-founder of Blade Education, said: "The DVD is like a big brother or sister that says to a child 'this is a good idea', or 'this is a bad idea'."

The films are being piloted in Essex but Blade Education plans to make the films available online so all schools can access them.
