Scottish pre-schools get Curriculum for Excellence DVD

1 min read Early Years
Pre-school settings in Scotland have been advised to develop more outdoor play opportunities, as part of the preparation for the new Curriculum for Excellence.

The curriculum, which represents a complete overhaul of the Scottish education system, will roll out across Scotland in August next year.

But this week nurseries, pre-schools and primary schools will receive a DVD to prepare them for the new approach, which will apply to every child aged three to 18. The DVD aims to help practitioners and teachers develop successful practices in areas such as active learning, self evaluation, additional support needs and the learning environment - including making the best use of outdoor opportunities.

Children's minister Adam Ingram said: "By ensuring children become familiar with this new approach to learning and teaching at the first opportunity we can engage them and challenge them early on, while ensuring an easy transition to primary school when the time comes."
