Drugs: Guidance for youth workers published

Guidance on helping young people affected by drug abuse has been launched by Drugscope and the National Youth Agency.

Aimed at managers and providers of youth services in both the voluntaryand statutory sectors, it is designed to complement the Department forEducation and Skills' 2004 publication, Drugs: Guidance for Schools.

Dr Jenny McWhirter, head of Drugscope's education and prevention team'said: "This document will equip youth workers to face these challengingissues with confidence while retaining important contact with the youngpeople they work with."

The guidance, funded by a grant from the Department of Health and theDfES, covers issues such as drug policy and education in youth worksettings; managing drugs issues in outreach work; and management of drugincidents.
