Substance misuse: Sector to receive drugs guidance

1 min read

Drugs Guidance for the Youth Service has been created by DrugScope and funded by the Department of Health and the Department for Education and Skills. It has been designed to complement guidance issued in 2004, which focused largely on drugs in schools.

Jennifer McWhirter, head of education and prevention at DrugScope, said: "A survey by The National Youth Agency in 2002 stated there was wide variance in practice with regard to drugs policies, which was also reflected by Ofsted." The guidance, which launches this Friday, aims to help youth service providers and managers to develop an effective drug protocol for youth workers. It will include advice on drug education, and the development of drug policies including working with vulnerable groups and working in partnership.
