DISABILITY: Whizz-Kidz offers activity grants

1 min read

Applicants must be aged 12 to 18 and have a permanent disability affecting their mobility.

The average sum awarded by the Whizz-Kidz mobility charity will be 4,200 and the maximum grant will be 100,000 for group projects. The money comes from the National Lottery through the Millennium Commission.

Projects can relate to a wide range of subjects, including sport, design, music, the internet, journalism and campaigning. Winners in the second round of awards are carrying out projects including writing a fiction book featuring disabled characters.

Actress Julie Fernandez, who appeared in BBC2 comedy The Office, launched the latest round of grants. She said: "Taking part in the scheme provides an excellent way for young disabled people to demonstrate their abilities and talents and make a real impact on their local community."
