Labour MPs Tom Clarke and Joan Humble are drawing up the report at therequest of Treasury minister Ed Balls. It will be sent to the Treasuryin the autumn and will feed into the next comprehensive spendingreview.
Humble told Children Now that the report would highlight the need forkey workers. She said that too many families with disabled children werestruggling to get provision from a range of providers. "Key workers canhelp," she said. "If families can approach a single person to makearrangements on their behalf, it saves them time, effort andanxiety."
Her comments were welcomed by campaigners. Katy Barton, director of CareCo-ordination Network UK, an umbrella organisation promoting key workingfor disabled children and their families, said current provision waspatchy and needed to be expanded.
