Action for Blind People, which has set up nine Actionnaires clubs for eight- to 16-year- olds and their siblings over the past five years, plans to start new clubs in Coventry, Birmingham and Hull by September. It also hopes to expand in the longer term to Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, as well as southwest England.
Ross Ford, the charity's sports development officer, said the clubs had been set up in response to the frequent exclusions from sports activities suffered by blind young people.
"There's hardly anything anywhere in the country for out-of-school activities for these young people," he said. "These clubs improve their confidence, which has a knock-on effect on the rest of their lives."
