Disabilities: Scheme will help disabled volunteer

1 min read

The Particip8 scheme will provide 265 volunteering opportunities, to encourage young people with disabilities, learning difficulties and mental health issues to take part in local decision-making processes and gain volunteering skills.

Steph Hawryla, project manager of advocacy charity Speaking Up, which is running the project, said: "With the input of the young volunteers, we will recruit project workers who have empathy, understanding and experience of the needs of young people with learning difficulties and mental health problems."

Every volunteer will receive monthly coaching and mentoring, as well as a personal development plan.

Volunteers from South Yorkshire and Cambridgeshire will meet three times a year to share their experiences and work on potential campaigns to influence national policy.
