Some primary care trusts, which take over commissioning dentistryservices in April, are reported to be insisting dentists who givechildren free care must also give it to adults to ensure families aretreated together.
But though many dentists want to continue free care to children, theyalso want to avoid the unpopular new contract where possible by treatingadults privately.
A spokesman from the British Dental Association said trusts' insistenceon an "all or nothing" approach would lose children free treatment.
However, a spokeswoman from Leeds North West Primary Care Trust said itwould commission places in other surgeries to compensate for anyshortfall.
Currently all under-18s, and under-19s in full-time education, areentitled to free NHS care.
