Dentistry: Free child dental care under threat

More than a third of local dentistry chiefs claim their health authorities will prevent dentists from providing NHS care for children from April.

In a British Dental Association survey of dental health chiefs, 35 percent said health authorities planned to bar dentists from runningchildren-only NHS registers after primary care trusts take overcommissioning services in April.

Many dentists want to avoid using the new trust contracts, which theysay are unworkable; they had hoped to treat adults on a private basiswhile maintaining NHS registers for children.
