
A Labour government would give councils responsibility for a new service for unemployed under-21s. Writing in the Guardian, party leader Ed Miliband said his government would also give councils control of a £1.5bn fund for the further education of 19- to 24-year-olds. In addition, he said councils would be responsible for ensuring that childcare providers and health services work with children’s centres to create family support hubs.
The former leader of the Paedophile Information Exchange has claimed he stored material at the Home Office in the 1980s. According to the BBC, the claim by Steven Adrian Smith came as Prime Minister David Cameron launched a review into a missing dossier allegedly naming high profile child abusers handed to former Home Secretary Leon Brittan in 1983.
Education Secretary Michael Gove has said he will introduce a new wave of free schools within 24 hours of a Conservative victory at the next general election. The Telegraph reports that Gove made the pledge as part of a challenge to shadow education secretary Tristram Hunt.
