
South Yorkshire’s Police and Crime Panel has passed a vote of no confidence in the county’s police and crime commissioner Shaun Wright. The BBC reports that the Independent Police Complaints Commission is assessing the complaint, which relates to his knowledge of allegations of child sexual exploitation in Rotherham.
Less than half of children’s centres inspected between April and June this year were rated as “good” or “outstanding”. New figures from Ofsted show that only 43 of the 89 inspections resulted in the top judgments.
Somerset County Council’s children and families service is set for a £2.7m overspend. The Western Daily Press reports that difficulty in recruiting social workers to the troubled service, rated “inadequate” by Ofsted in 2013, is to blame for a huge bill for agency staff.
The deputy mayor of London has warned that children living in the capital, some as young as 10, are being “trained to be junior jihadis”. The London Evening Standard reports that Stephen Greenhalgh made the warning ahead of a counter-terrorism summit at City Hall.
Peterborough’s safeguarding children board is currently reviewing four cases of child abuse. The Peterborough Telegraph reports that the reviews, revealed in the board’s annual report, include the sexual assault of a five-year-old girl.
Parents have removed their children from a primary school in Barnsley after the governors banned packed lunches. The Daily Mail reports that at least six children have been removed from Milefield Primary School after packed lunches were banned to make way for free school meals.
