Gove under fire over free school funding; outdoor play helps cut cancer risk; and young people are most lonely, all in the news today.

Education Secretary Michael Gove took £400m from a fund that guarantees school places for all children and young people to fill a financial hole in the free schools programme. The Observer reports that senior Liberal Democrats confirmed the information, which was leaked by a senior government source.

New research has found that children who play outdoors will be better protected from cancer in later life. According to The Express, the World Cancer Research Fund has claimed that time spent outside has the greatest positive effect on children’s health.

A survey has found that 18- to 24-year-olds suffer significantly more from loneliness than any other generation. The Yorkshire Post reports findings of a survey by Aviva, which found that a quarter of young people suffer from isolation compared to just 11 per cent of pensioners.
