
A third of children who end up in hospital following an asthma attack have been exposed to cigarette smoke, research has found. The Guardian reports that the British Thoracic Society's national paediatric asthma audit found that 32 per cent of those treated for breathing difficulties encountered "environmental tobacco smoke" just beforehand.?
Poland's Prime Minister Beata Szydlo has declared that British schools should teach the Polish language after meeting with Prime Minister Theresa May. The Express reports that the Polish leader talked about "the option of teaching Polish as a language in British schools" during a press conference.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has upheld a decision not to bring charges over the death of a 13-month-old girl. The BBC reports Poppi Worthington was found with serious injuries at her home in Barrow, Cumbria, in December 2012. A family judge later ruled she had been sexually assaulted, prompting the CPS to review the original decision not to press charges.
Five-time world darts champion Eric Bristow has been severely criticised after appearing to mock victims of the football sex abuse scandal for "not getting their own back" on abusers. The Mirror reports that in messages posted on his Twitter account, Bristow said footballers aren't "proper men" and branded them "wimps". His comments have prompted Sky Sports to drop him as a commentator?.
A survivors' group for victims of child sexual abuse in Lambeth are to release a charity song to mark the end of their investigation into historic allegations. The London Evening Standard reports that the song, raising funds for the Shirley Oaks Survivors Association, will be launched in early December to coincide with the publication of the group's report.
A new online training programme is to launch for professionals in the youth justice system to improve practice, reduce offending by young people with special educational needs and improve their educational outcomes. Funded by the Department for Education, the Youth Justice SEND Bubble is being delivered by Achievement for All in partnership with the Association of Youth Offending Team Managers and Manchester Metropolitan University.
