
A full review of Scotland's child protection system has been commissioned by the Scottish government. The BBC reports that the review will look at legislation covering children at risk of neglect or abuse to see if it needs to be strengthened.
Parents have launched a petition to stop Essex County Council's plans to close children's centres. The Enquirer reports that the petition against the council's plans to close 25 of the county's 37 children's centres has gained more than 700 supporters.
Doctors regularly misdiagnose children as having asthma, according to research published in the British Journal of General Practice. The Telegraph reports that the study found that more than half of the one million children diagnosed with asthma in Britain may not have the condition.
Schools now have "compelling" evidence that the money they spend on teaching assistants can be used to improve pupils' outcomes, according to the Education Endowment Foundation. The education charity has produced results from two trials looking into how teaching assistance can benefit learning over the past five years.
Swindon Borough Council has rubberstamped plans to close all five of its children's centres. The BBC reports that support for vulnerable children will now be provided by health visitors. In 2013, Swindon had 14 children's centres.
