
Careers education given to pupils in secondary school can be linked to higher earnings in adult life, according to a study published in the Journal of Education and Work. The BBC reports that every six careers sessions when aged 14 to 15 can earn adults an extra £2,000 per year.
The Pre-school Learning Alliance has written to the producers of a BBC series about its depiction of childminders in a recent episode. The programme shows a childminder giving medication to a child without parental permission and operating outside statutory ratios.
Somerset Council has adopted a three-year plan to improve its children's services. The BBC reports that the plan involves recruiting more social workers and supporting parents and children more effectively.
The overall absence rate for state-funded primary and secondary schools in England has decreased from 4.4 per cent in autumn 2014 to 4.1 per cent in autumn 2015. Government data shows that overall absence rates have followed a general downwards trend since autumn 2008 when it was 6.4 per cent.?
Half a million young voters are to be targeted ahead of the referendum on Britain's membership of the European Union through dating app Tinder, in Starbucks cafes and a referendum debate livestreamed on Facebook. The Guardian reports that campaigns Bite the Ballot and Hope not Hate hope to register half a million young people by the deadline via the #TurnUp campaign, launched today.
