Prime Minister to hand power to turn around failing schools to regional commissioners; maliciously sharing sexual pictures to become a crime; and mayor of London seeks to ban takeaway premises near schools, all in the news today.

Prime Minister David Cameron wants to empower regional school commissioners to fire head teachers and punish bad behaviour as part of efforts to improve outcomes for pupils in struggling schools. The Telegraph reports that Cameron's plan to give the new commissioners greater powers will feature in the Conservative Party's election manifesto.

People who maliciously share sexually explicit pictures of former partners will face prosecution under new laws proposed today. Revenge porn - the distribution of a private sexual image of someone without their consent and with the intention of causing them distress - will be made a specific offence in the Criminal Justice and Courts Bill, which is currently going through Parliament. The change will cover the sharing of images both online and offline.
