CSV cash call for Millennium projects

1 min read Youth Work
Volunteering charity CSV has called on the government to continue to fund projects run by Millennium Volunteers for hard-to-reach young people, following the creation of vinvolve.

The vinvolve programme, launched last week, will replace and expand on the Millennium Volunteers scheme (CYP Now, 21-27 November) after receiving £75m funding from the Cabinet Office.

But CSV is concerned that existing Millennium Volunteers projects targeting hard-to-reach groups of young people may close if they do not fit the right funding category.

A CSV spokesman said: "We hope the government will continue the opportunities pioneered for over 10 years through Millennium Volunteering."

A vinvolve spokeswoman said that a national framework for youth volunteering was a central aim of the Russell Commission, which the programme was set up to implement.

"The vinvolve programme was commissioned through a transparent process to provide the best opportunities for young people to volunteer," she said.
