CRIME PREVENTION: Community panels fight youth crime

Members of the community are being asked to take part in a pilot project launched by the Youth Justice Board to stop young people getting involved in crime at an early age.

Fourteen youth inclusion and support panels will be in place by April.

The community members will set alongside agencies such as the police, youth offending teams, schools and social services to recommend specific help for eight to 13-year-olds thought to be at risk of falling into crime.

The pilot areas include five in London, two in the West Midlands, two in Merseyside, two in Manchester, and one each in Nottinghamshire, Lancashire and South Yorkshire.
