The 30-minute video, Don't abuse the power, portrays the experiences and reactions of young people to stop-and-search measures being used in Lambeth. The video has been tested on police in Lambeth over the past 18 months and it is now being re-edited before being used throughout London by the Metropolitan Police (Met).
Mark Fearon, a 20-year-old peer leader at Lambeth Youth Council, said responses to the pilot film were mixed, but senior figures in the Met have supported the video being incorporated into officer training.
"A lot of police officers don't understand the impact of stop and search on young people," said Fearon. "In the last quarter, about 5,000 stop and searches were being done and the ratio of Blacks to Whites being stopped was four to one."
