Councils get advice on children in care

1 min read Social Care
Local authorities are to get extra help to improve the lives of vulnerable children, thanks to a Foster Care Associates project.

The charity's Core Child Care project, which is currently being developed, will give councils advice on how to improve the lot of children in and on the edge of care. The training initiative will advise on areas such as education, mental health, attachment and special needs.

Tim Whittingham, director of education services at Foster Care Associates (FCA), told CYP Now: "It draws on the expertise within FCA, where professionals in a variety of roles are pulled together into one organisation."

FCA created the project in response to requests for help from local authorities.

Whittingham said the move was timely given government plans to appoint designated teachers to support looked-after children in England's schools.
