Study on children-in-care councils

Social Care
London Councils has commissioned the Care Matters Partnership to carry out research into how local authorities can overcome barriers to establishing successful children-in-care councils.

The project will consult professionals and children in care. Interviews will be conducted in local authorities that have already developed a children-in-care council, those yet to establish one and those currently developing a council.

Researchers will also map existing provision of these councils across the capital and identify and share examples of best practice.

The research is due to be published later this summer.

A study by CYP Now found that one in 10 local authorities is yet to set up a children-in-care council, despite it being three years since the Care Matters reforms were launched.
