Councils face youth justice indicators

The system, which will be introduced from the autumn, will judge local authorities based on 200 indicators.

The Youth Justice Board has been pushing to get youth justice indicators included among them, and Bob Reitemeier, chief executive of the Children's Society, and a YJB board member, said he believed it has been successful. "We're hopeful that the advice the YJB has given has been listened to," he said.

Authorities will have to prioritise 35 indicators from the 200, and funding for services will be based around meeting the objectives these set out. Possible indicators would include current targets, such as reducing reoffending, or cutting first-time entrants to the system.
