Council officials thwart club plan

An award-winning youth club designed to deal with crime and safety issues for young people is being hampered by planning officials.

St Mary's Church in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, has applied to WarwickDistrict Council to use a temporary building in the church's car parkwhile major ceiling repairs are carried out.

But planning officers have recommended the application be refused on thegrounds it would result in "unacceptable clutter" near the Grade IIlisted building.

Last week, St Mary's received a civic award from Warwick DistrictCouncil for its youth work.
