Conservative-run Derbyshire County Council, is proposing to offer grants to voluntary and community groups to provide youth activities instead of providing them itself.
The move is aimed at giving more young people opportunities to take part in youth activities when and where they want them.
But the local Labour group has hit out at the proposals, which are due to go before the council's cabinet on Tuesday December 13, claiming the council is just cutting costs at the expense of young people.
Under the proposals, the council will continue to provide qualified youth workers to support vulnerable young people and families facing difficulties but will no longer provide front-line activities for teenagers including youth clubs and or the council’s mobile service.
