
The council found the money by making savings in the management of 29 buildings across youth services. As a result, four buildings were sold or the leases expired, while the management of three was transferred to non-council providers, under the condition that youth provision would continue to be delivered from them.
The authority plans to work in partnership with young people to decide how the money should be spent, and agreed to allocate time for “meaningful consultation”.
Proposals for spending the money include using it to maintain youth worker numbers to support young people, particularly the most vulnerable, during the difficult economic conditions.
