Consultation of the week: The Blue Badge disabled parking scheme

Extending eligibility for the blue badge disabled parking scheme to children under two is the main proposal in this consultation.

The consultation sets out a series of changes to the parking scheme, which is for disabled people with severe mobility problems. Under theplans, blue badges will be available to families with disabled childrenunder two who must travel with bulky medical equipment or need to haveaccess to such equipment quickly.

The badges will also be available to under twos if a vehicle is neededto travel for treatment.

The consultation also includes draft guidance for local authoritiesdesigned to iron out inconsistencies between councils' interpretationsof the blue badge criteria.
