Consultation of the week - Drugs: Our Community, YourSay

1 min read Health
As the government prepares to build its next drugs strategy this consultation asks communities, families and experts as well as current and ex-substance misusers what they think can be done to tackle drugs and other problems associated with them.

Overall drug use among young people has fallen in recent years, but the government believes it can do more. The current strategy aims to make information and education on drugs and other substances, such as alcohol, available to all young people and their families; to promote earlier intervention with those at most risk of developing problems; and ensure that specialist treatment and follow-up support is available to those who have already developed drug problems.

The aim of the new strategy is to make further progress on reducing the harm drugs cause to the development and wellbeing of young people and families; bringing the full force of law enforcement to bear on drug dealers at all levels; and for the police to get tougher on drug dealers at all levels. It also seeks to reduce the impact of drugs on local communities.
