Consultation of the week: Confidence and Confidentiality

Confidence and Confidentiality: Openness in Family Courts - a New Approach.

In response to accusations that the family courts lack transparency, theGovernment is reviewing how the system communicates with those involvedin proceedings, as well as wider society.

A previous consultation, called Confidence and Confidentiality:Improving Transparency and Privacy in Family Courts mooted the idea ofgiving the media an automatic right to access.

This latest consultation, however proposes continued limits on mediainvolvement. It emphasises a better flow of information for thoseinvolved in proceedings. Proposals also include providing an anonymisedtranscript of proceedings where there is a public interest.
