The learning centre, which will be ready by early summer, will offer alternative training opportunities in basic and practical skills. Meanwhile, young people are using outdoor temporary shelters in the car park of the premises to meet each other and youth workers.
Separately, more than 220 youth workers and Connexions PAs from Sheffield met last week to discuss the needs of local young people.
Keynote speaker, Joyce Thacker, chief executive for South Yorkshire Connexions, said: "The conference was a mass consultation event intended to improve youth work delivery and make improvements."
