Connexions: Durham pushes for more apprentices

1 min read

Funded by County Durham Learning and Skills Council, Apprenticeships East Durham will bring East Durham Business Service and Easington Action Team for Jobs into partnership with Connexions.

David Robinson, business broker at East Durham Business Service, said: "Many employers don't realise that, in the majority of cases, training and assessment is free."

Take-up of the apprenticeships scheme had been low in County Durham, according to Mary Allen, the project's recruitment consultant.

"We hope to create 100 apprenticeships in the area within 12 months," said Allen. "This is vocational training that benefits young people and employers, because the young person leaves with a credible qualification that has been designed by industry." The project will work closely with Connexions staff to match young people with employers. Apprenticeships will be advertised through Connexions.
