CONNEXIONS: Critics attack plan to scrap drug workers

The National Health Education Group, which represents health education workers, dismissed the idea that Connexions staff were an adequate replacement for school drug advisers.

Adrian King, co-founder of the group, said: "The idea that specialist drug advisers' expertise can be replicated by Connexions personal advisers is pie in the sky. While there are pockets of Connexions personal advisers with such expertise, in general this plan is not realistic."

Government funding for school drug adviser posts is due to run out this April.
