Camden-based Envision encourages pupils to set up environmental or social projects at school or in their community.
Tom Doust, co-founder of Envision, said: "It is up to the students to come up with the ideas, although they are told about previous projects."
He added that the projects address a range of issues, from recycling or renewable energy to homelessness.
Envision was set up in 2000 by young people and initially worked in five schools. It will work in about 70 schools this year, including 10 in Birmingham where the programme will operate for the first time.
The group has also applied for funding from the Young People's Fund in Birmingham. Doust said the group already has some funding to work in Birmingham, but a lottery award would increase the amount that could be done.
