The environment is generally one of the political subjects young people are most worried about, but in the past many projects with an environmental aim have been led by adults, with young people following behind.
Now though, this is changing. With funding streams opening up to young people, they are increasingly coming up with their own projects to improve their local environment or address wider environmental concerns.
Youth ownership
One example is volunteering charity Community Service Volunteers' Action Earth campaign, which is supported by the Environment Agency. This gives out 50 grants to groups running projects with an environmental aim, and is keen to encourage applications from young people, although it is open to all ages.
