Environment: YHA to offer green residential breaks

The Green Shoots initiative will be run in about 120 youth hostels across England for youth clubs and is funded by a three-year 350,000 grant from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs' Environmental Action Fund.

The residential programme will encourage young people to live in a more environmentally friendly way and will be backed by awards to encourage youth clubs and individuals to adopt green policies after the course.

Ewan Boyd, environmental officer at the Youth Hostels Association, said: "We hope to show young people that they can do something about environmental issues."
