Church group urges community action

Youth Justice
Communities rely too heavily on government for diverting young people away from crime, a report from a national church group has said.

Who is my Neighbour? A Church Response to Social Disorder Linked to Gangs, Drugs, Guns and Knives has been published by Churches Together in England to look at the role churches can play in tackling youth violence.

The organisation is a national body representing churches across England. It is launching the report in sessions around the country throughout November to allow local churches and communities to look at their role in combating the problem of violent youth crime.

The study quizzed 60 church members via consultations and questionnaires. It found that respondents felt the government was too heavily relied on to provide support for voluntary sector youth activities.
