Brigade launches campaign to raise church attendance

1 min read Youth Work
The Church Lads' and Church Girls' Brigade has launched a range of marketing materials for churches to use to encourage membership of the organisation.

The Brigade, which aims to boost numbers of young people attending church, is calling on churches to set up new companies. They can use the marketing materials to target families of five- to 21-year-olds.

The organisation has used £140,000 funding from the Department for Children, Schools and Families to appoint three part-time regional training and development officers to help parishes launch the new companies.

Leaders of the Brigade claim it can help young people to learn important life skills based on citizenship and teamwork.

"This new offensive to build up the number of companies is unashamedly about helping churches offer youngsters in their parish a radically alternative youth group based on Gospel values," said Rt Revd Jack Nicholls, chaplain of the Brigade.

"We've seen the number of under-16s attending church regularly drop significantly in the past three years and while the Brigade isn't the only answer, I can't think of many better ways to attract new families into the orbit of the church."

Marketing materials for new branches of the Brigade can be obtained from the new regional development officers.
