Children's Trusts: Youth Justice Board links up with trusts

1 min read
The Youth Justice Board is teaming up with two of the 35 pilot children's trusts to evaluate how youth offending teams can fit in with the trusts' model of service delivery.

At the Annual Youth Justice Convention last week, Chris Hume, director of practice and performance at the board, said the organisation was working with the Department for Education and Skills to identify "trial sites" that are "at the vanguard of children's trust development".

Delegates voiced concern that pooling resources would lead to large statutory bodies such as social services taking funding from other agencies.

Hume said: "This provides opportunities but also presents potential risks. There are obvious gains, but the huge pressures on children's services have the potential to suck in resources."

Children's trusts used pooled funding to commission local services for young people and are made up of representatives from both voluntary and statutory agencies.
