It's been five years since the government set out its vision for improving outcomes for children and young people. Children's trusts are a key component of achieving this vision.
Local authorities and their partners have made real and significant progress in implementing the structures and changes necessitated by the introduction of children's trusts. However, it is very much a work in progress and there is still much to be done.
The next major challenge facing local authorities and their trust partners is ensuring inter-agency co-operation. The Children's Plan makes clear the crucial leadership role of local authorities in driving this closer joint working, particularly in the involvement of schools.
