Children's trusts: A journey of change

6 mins read
Young People Now's Joining Up conference brought together professionals to debate how services will fit in with children's trusts. By Charlotte Goddard.

In her keynote speech, Hodge gave her view of what a trust should be, describing the children bill as the "legislative spine on which we can build a programme of reform".

"What will a children's trust look like in 2008?" she asked. "For me, the thing we have to get right is the joint planning and commissioning of services, from health, education, social services, and at best, including Connexions and the YOTs, so there can be joint expenditure. There will probably be a children's director and a clear role for the voluntary sector," she added. "I hope they will be delivered in co-located areas, preferably through schools, and that they will be able to encapsulate a common assessment framework."
