Children's trusts: DfES commissions pathfinder study

Councils looking to integrate children's services will be able to tap into examples of good practice via a research project evaluating pathfinder children's trusts.

The Department for Education and Skills has asked the University of East Anglia and the National Children's Bureau to carry out a three-year, 600,000 survey of the 35 pathfinders.

Researchers will collect data on the structures and agencies involved, then select eight for in-depth studies. The project will include panel meetings of children and carers to explore their experiences of the pathfinders.

Dr Margaret O'Brien of the university's school of social work and psychosocial studies is leading the research with professor Chris Husbands, of its school of education, and Professor Max Bachmann of the school of medicine, health policy and practice.
