The investigation will assess the effectiveness of children's trusts inmanaging resources and value for money in how pooled budgets are spent.The commission also plans to identify examples of good practice.
In gathering its findings, the local authority watchdog will analysestrategy documents produced by children's trusts and funding data. Itwill also visit some children's trusts.
Roger Sykes, head of studies at the commission, said the report followson from a Government-commissioned study carried out by the University ofEast Anglia, published in March (Children Now, 4-10 April). He said:"The Audit Commission has powers to carry out independent research, andis able to ask some of the questions about what local authority partnersare delivering, and ask them about the Government's agenda."
