Christine Davies, children's services director at Telford & WrekinCouncil, faces an independent investigation following the suspension(Children Now, 4-10 October).
The council has refused to comment and Davies's mobile phone has beendisconnected. But senior sources in the children's sector told ChildrenNow that Davies's professional reputation remained intact.
One said the suspension was the result of "a difference of opinion" withthe outgoing chief executive Michael Frater.
Another source backed up the claim. He said: "It's a political matterrather than a professional matter. It's an error of judgment in thepolitical interface. It is absolutely not a professional misjudgment. It's no reflection on anything she's done as an individual. Herreputation is unsullied."
