The council was allocated 400,000 each year and, on advice from the Children's Fund, it profiled to spend 500,000 in the second year. But it now faces a 22.3 per cent cut this year, which amounts to more than 100,000.
Hundreds of children will be affected by the loss. Dr Ian Birnbaum, director of education and children's services, said the projects were all about prevention, "which is what the Government wants us to do. Local authorities can only fund preventative work if we get some investment."
The projects were for children who have suffered grief and loss, children who witness domestic violence, children in transition from primary to secondary school, and a parent-support group for children on the waiting list for the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service.
